Sunderland, however, was beaten to a 1-1 tie by Huddersfield Town at the Stadium of Light last time out, preventing them from recording their third consecutive victory.
The Black Cats have now gone six games without a loss, winning two and drawing four since their 5-1 setback to Stoke in March.
With 62 points, Sunderland is tied for ninth place in the league with Preston North End and Norwich City.
