It can be very unsettling to observe that, according to dermatologist Dr. Susan Massick of Ohio State University,

who has treated patients who have lost their hair as a result of weight loss surgery.

Semaglutide, also marketed as Wegovy and Ozempic, and tirzepatide, marketed as Mounjaro, were initially created with Type 2 diabetics in mind.

However, doctors also frequently recommend the drugs for weight loss.

While Ozempic and Mounjaro are administered off-label, Wegovy has Food and Drug Administration approval for weight loss.

Dr. Vijaya Surampudi, assistant director of the UCLA weight management program in Los Angeles, said hair loss is rare.
