Money Monday for "Super Mario Bros.": $20M+ Breaks Record For Illumination Film

Illumination/Universal's Super Mario Bros. Movie grossed $20.1 million on Monday after the Easter holiday weekend.

That's Illumination's greatest Monday ever, surpassing Sing's $19.6M on December 26, 2016.

With 40% of K-12 schools off for spring break on Monday, down from 80% on Good Friday, moviegoing was abundant. Friday's 31% college breakers dropped to 10% yesterday.

Super Mario Bros earned $224.7M in six days. Super Mario Bros might reach $500M-$600M at the end of its domestic run,

especially since Universal has kept these family films wide for months even after they hit Premium VOD.

Super Mario Bros is Universal's second-best Monday following Jurassic World's $25.3M (June 15, 2015).

Super Mario Bros earned the third-best Monday in April after Avengers: Endgame ($36.8M) and Avengers: Infinity War ($24.7M). Super Mario had 2023's second-highest Monday after Avatar: The Way of Water's $21.4M on January 2.
